Java Island, Indonesia. Day and night, in a lunar and toxic landscape of the Kawa Ijen volcano, men collect the sulphur that gushes out of the bottom of its crater. Smothered by sulphurous gases and the tear gas that emanates from them, they carry the blocks of sulphur daily. From this encounter with these men with a deep gaze and a strong and proud soul, was born this series of portraits; a silent dialogue in a harsh daily life, the urgency of life, the ever-present reprieve.
